Silversmith House

The Silversmith House began as the workshop of silversmith William Dodge Jr., and TwinBrother Builders restored and converted it into a private residence in Biltmore Forest — the project that began our love of working on historic homes. Hand-carved woodwork, custom metalwork, and original stonework run through the entire house, including the original tool pegs still set in the beams and the carved detail on the staircase.

Project Highlights

  • Former silversmith’s workshop converted into a private residence
  • Original hand-carved woodwork preserved throughout, including the staircase detail and the silversmith’s tool pegs still set in the beams
  • Custom metalwork and stonework — including the blacksmith weathervane, carved stone crest, and figural stone detail — retained and restored
  • Original arched Tudor entry doors and wrought iron hardware kept in service
  • Renovated kitchen with brick surround, restored bread oven, and custom cabinetry under original timber beams
  • Antique iron light fixtures restored and rewired rather than replaced
  • Lower level finished with a wine room beneath the original staircase and a hardwood tasting bar
  • Leaded and Gothic arched windows preserved across the main living spaces
