Perched atop Crabtree Mountain, this rustic A-frame underwent a full transformation over the course of a year. Our goal was to add the desired square footage in a way that respected the chalet’s A-frame silhouette. Our architect shared that vision and created a design that complements the original roofline, with sharp peaks and window walls that showcase the stunning mountain views. We drew design elements from the surrounding landscape — hints of the mountain at sunset appear in the hardscaping, exterior paint selection, metal finishes, and soft exterior lighting.

  • South-facing window wall with panoramic mountain views; all windows replaced with Marvin
  • Black locust decking on the ground-floor deck and the private upper deck
  • Exterior siding upgraded at the owners’ request to WoodPlank with Diamond Kote accents
  • Covered wraparound concrete walkway on the lower level, designed to keep kids and dogs from tracking in mud
  • Exterior lighting designed to glow like a bonfire, inspired by the owners’ love of outdoor live music
  • Solar panels on the south-facing roofs for sustainability and backup power during outages
  • Regraded, enlarged parking area so cars can turn around instead of backing down the long, narrow drive
  • A mix of roofing and siding materials for texture, with colors drawn from the mountainside palette
  • Outdoor fire pit and entertainment area
